The Region

The Loire Valley, often referred to as the garden of France has inspired many artists, poets and writers. Leonardo da Vinci was enticed here and Charles Perrault was inspired by Chateau d’Ussé to write ‘Sleeping Beauty’. When exploring the area one is easily impressed by its beauty, both  natural and man made. The beauty of the Loire Valley is reflected in changing landscapes and a unique play of light on them and the river. There are many magnificent gardens and quaint villages found in the region. Good restaurants abound.

The region is also steeped in history which is often reflected in the architecture: from simple cottages to imposing Renaissance chateaux; from medieval fortresses to troglodyte dwellings; from ancient wineries to majestic garden landscapes.

It is home to one of France’s most beautiful cities, Angers with its imposing 9th century moated castle and famous Apocalypse tapestry. Around Saumur are some very old wineries to taste some of the region’s delicious wines. Chinon was once residence for the Plantagenets and a haunt for Joan of Arc. Fontevrault  abbey  keeps Richard the Lion Heart and Alienor of Aquitaine's tomb

Not only an ideal area for sightseeing but for the more energetic, a wide variety of activities such as walking/hiking, cycling, swimming, canoeing, rowing, horse-riding and golf are available. There is plenty for families to do. For something extra near Angers there is an adventure park, go-carting and a kayaking school. There are also plenty of child oriented museums throughout the region.

The perfect place to enjoy a holiday !
